Meek Mill I Dont Sleep on No Beef
Over the past few years, Meek Mill has become more known for his public feuds than his hip-hop career. Whether it be Drake, The Game, or his ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj, Mill is frequently making headlines for his social media rants and combative attitude. But perhaps no one has been more prominent a target than Safaree Samuels.
The rapper, songwriter, and former Minaj suitor has been the subject of numerous disses, Twitter insults, and, most recently, an alleged attack from Mill's crew. In a video released on Friday, Samuels claimed that Mill and several other men tried to jump him while he was walking down the street.
So, as details continue to surface regarding this latest exchange, here are five fast facts you need to know about Meek Mill and Safaree Samuels.
1. Samuels Says Mill Was a 'Big Part' of His Breakup With Nicki Minaj
Samuels and Nicki Minaj ended their 12 year relationship in 2015. Few details were made available when it was announced, but once Minaj began cozying up to Meek Mill, Samuels decided to publicly clarify what happened. It started with the 2022 diss record "Pest Control," where sworn Mill enemy The Game claimed that the rapper snitched and FaceTimed Minaj while Samuels was with another woman. Samuels surprised fans when he responded to the verse on Instagram, writing "Honestly, I should thank him."
He clarified his comment in an interview with Rap-Up: "I'm just saying, I just meant like… [Meek Mill] definitely was a big part as to why me and Nicki broke up, you know what I'm saying? So that's why I said that." Watch the full interview above. When he appeared on The Wendy Williams Show in March, Samuels added "The last year-and-a-half, it just got really different. We just grew apart. At the end of the day, Meek had a lot to do with me and her breaking up."
In January 2015, Samuels told E! Online that "I just got to the point where the respect wasn't there. Everyone around her works for her, you know? So it got the point where it was like, I'm your man. I'm who you go to sleep with every night. I'm who you wake up with every morning. And it got to the point where I was being treated like an employee, instead of like her man."
2. Samuels Filed A Lawsuit Against Minaj In 2016
Samuels' involvement in Minaj's musical career has long been a subject of debate. Some believe that he was merely an aid in the creative process, while others feel that he was the driving force behind several of Minaj's biggest hits. This led to a lawsuit being brought against the rapper in late 2016, claiming that Samuels was owned a cut of the profits from her albums Pink Friday (2010), Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012) and The Pinkprint (2014). According to TMZ, Samuels also wanted a cut from popular singles like "Only" and "Flawless (Remix)," with Beyoncé.
On The Wendy Williams Show, Samuels clarified his role, explaining that it was a "collaborative effort" between the two of them. "[Nicki] doesn't sit there and do absolutely nothing, but I definitely was a helping force in everything that had to do with creative music. It's not like I was just a waste man." Watch the full interview above.
Fortunately for Minaj, Samuels had a change of heart, and promptly dropped the lawsuit. "I dropped everything," he told Rap-Up, "I'd started a process and then I was like 'It is what it is. If you want to deal with it like that, go ahead. I ain't trippin… At the end of the day, I didn't even wanna do it. I'm in such a good headspace so I'm not even focusing on that."
3. Samuels & Mill Have Had Beef On Social Media
Despite waving the lawsuit, Samuels and Mill have by no means squashed their hostile stance towards one another. In 2015, Vibe reports that Mill went on a Twitter rant against Samuels, clowning him for his behavior towards Minaj and calling it "embarrassing." He also poked fun at the fact that Minaj famously twerked on Drake in the music video for "Anaconda," while Samuels and her were still together. Check out the original tweets below.
Samuels clapped back at Mill, claiming that he still keeps in touch with Minaj behind Mill's back. "Show him the email you sent me on my birthday," he warned.
The two would later engage in another social media exchange, as Samuels posted a vague tweet that read: "You ever see a pic of some1 you use to deal with and wanna send that 'wyd bighead' text I hate yall #stuntgang." Mill promptly responded to the jab, posting a photo of himself on Snapchat with the caption "Hey Bighead."
4. Samuels Has Released 2 Diss Records About Mill
While Samuels is known more for his songwriting and production than his rapping skills, he still found time to release a diss record against Mill called "Lifeline." In the song, Samuels goes in on Mill for his unsuccessful feud with Drake and claims that Minaj still thinks about him even though she's supposedly moved on:
"I left and I don't want it back, the proof is right here. Thank God I'm free my n***a s**t fell like a light year," he raps over the booming beat, "Wasn't a secret young bull I knew everything, Hope you go platinum my n***a she need a better ring, I thought I left her so she could move on to better things." Listen to the full song above.
Mill brushed off the diss track, only to have Samuels come back two years later and continue the attack on the song "All That." Here, he goes after both Mill and Nicki Minaj, with insults ranging from Minaj's lack of lyrical prowess to, yet again, the size of Mill's head. In 2016, Samuels publicly co-signed another Mill diss, "92 Bars," which was released on The Game's album 1992.
While Mill has yet to respond to either diss on record, DancehallHipHop reports that there may be a response on his upcoming mixtape Dreamchasers 4.5.
5. Samuels Called Mill 'The Biggest P***y In the World' After Alleged Jumping
After Samuels was allegedly jumped by Mill and his crew, Samuels promptly hopped on social media to post a video about what happened. "Saw Meek, he hopped out [of his car], then I just got snuffed," he says from the backseat of a car, "N***as jumped me."
Samuels then proceeds to lay into Mill, making it clear that he isn't impressed with the rapper: "Meek, you are the biggest p***y on this planet. You saw me, you ain't do s**t, you had your n***as jump me. One-on-one you can't f**k with me, so that's why you had to do that. N***as caught me from the back, n***as caught me from the side, all that… The way you move, you move like a b**ch, you act like you the hardest n***a on this planet, you are not hard my n***a."
Mill has yet to respond to these allegations, choosing instead to post a few pictures of himself on Instagram around the time news of the attack was breaking. "I'm in the studio finishing my album," he writes in the caption, "WINS & LOSSES!" The latter part of the message is in response to the comment section of his posts, which fans have flooded with the universal sign for loss, "L."
